the family is the worst... or is it? 29.5. ensimmäinen (Itse asiassa pelkästään rakas hahmoseni ei ole britti, vaan oon sitä itsekin isän puolelta.
They say the family is the worst. As an Irish person, I tend to think a little differently. There is a stereotype of us that we are all Catholic and have like, I don't know, hundreds of children in one family. Well, in the Tremblay family, that stereotype is kind of true. Of course I don't have any siblings and you know that, but I have fifteen cousins, four aunts and two uncles. And I just can't forget my favourite relative, my dear maimeó (which means grandmother in Gaelic). My grandfathers and nanna have passed away years ago, when I was younger. Even maimeó is pretty old now, we celebrated her 100th birthday a little while ago.
Anyways, now my brilliant family came to Finland to see me and my parents. Three generations, and everyone together at a huge rented villa in Espoo, which meant that Ellida got herself a few nights alone at our flat in Kallio. She can thank me for not inviting my cousins to stay there.
I have three cousins that simply love horses. Since my mom has done a lot of horse riding in her past, we got introduced to horses at the same time. Well, one of these three cousins was just a little baby then, and even now she is only something around six years, but me and my mom thought that since I have to take care of Zake and Gobi, why don't I take some of my cousins with me. "Pliis äiti, ei, don't make me take them to Pappila so they could run around, cause chaos and be in everybodys face all the time", I had said to her. She had nodded and then suggested that we payed for a group riding lesson. My aunt Berit, uncle Brian and cousins Bree, Kieran and Kelly would get a riding lesson in Pappila.
So we packed ourselves into the car on sunday at two o'clock. Our private group lesson would start at three o'clock, so we were kind of in a hurry. I would have loved a little nap on the back seat, but Berit doesn't even have a license and Brian can't drive on the right side of the road, so I had to take the wheel and drive to Pappila. It took about a quarter to get there, and aunt Berit couldn't have talked more on the way there. She is a very anxious person, if she has to try something new.
"Oh, this seems neat", Brian said when he stepped out of the car. Bree and Kelly ran to the stables, and Kieran grabbed his mom's hand trying to calm her down. Kieran is a pretty smart lad, even though he is maybe eight or something.
In the stable Inga was just about to hang todays riding lesson information on the board, and it had all our names on it (well, I would ride later today on a normal group lesson, but still). "Moi Inga, täällä me nyt oltais", I said to my favourite teacher and introduced everyone quickly. "Okei!
I just hope that Kristian was not so fucking vicious in English, because in Finnish his tongue is unstoppable.
Bree and Kelly didn't take a long time sorting out who would ride who - Bree was determined to go with Misty, and Kelly never argues back, so she was happy with Goldi. "Look at this wee little 'orse", Brian laughed, when he saw Misty. "How's the craic?" he asked from Ellida. My dear roommate looked pretty confused. "He means how are you", I explained and Ellida nodded. Her English was really good, not that it surprised me, but she talked pretty fluently with Brian even though he had a very noticeable accent. Kristian looked like he would bite someone's ear off if aunt Berit came any closer, so she headed to see what kind of horse she would be riding. I think Berit and Inga got along quite well.
Kieran was absolutely in love with Goldi. Seriously. He gave a pat for him for five minutes, said "thanks a million" to me thousands of times and was super happy to help me with brushing, cleaning Glodi's hooves and putting on the saddle. Goldi stood very neatly for the whole time except when we were tightening his girth. He didn't look happy when we were doing that, oh no...
In half an hour everyone was ready. Ellida talked fluently to Bree, Inga tried to tell Breit to calm the heck down, Brian pat Tedi and seemed to be very happy about his horse and Kristian rolled his eyes for maybe the hundredth time today, when Kelly asked how old Goldi was. "Frankly, I don't know", he answered and every time Goldi tried to rub his forehead on Kristian's brand new dress shirt, he stepped back looking like he would start world war III if something happened to his clothes during this lesson. When Joona joined us to help Brian on the lesson with Tedi, we were ready to go.
And trust me, it was the weirdest riding lesson I have ever been to. How can a person fall off Kylli? Well, we know now.
